  • 3 cups cooked white rice
  • 3 cups chopped fresh broccoli, lightly steamed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook rice fully and steam broccoli until slightly tender.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Whisk in flour to form a smooth roux.
  5. Slowly pour in milk or cream while whisking continuously.
  6. Simmer until thickened, then season with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  7. Combine cooked rice, shredded chicken, broccoli, and half of the cheddar cheese in a large bowl.
  8. Pour the homemade sauce over the mixture and stir gently to coat evenly.
  9. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish.
  10. Top with remaining cheddar cheese.
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes until hot, bubbly, and golden.
  12. Let rest a few minutes before serving.
